The Captain Cook Memorial Jet is an impressive demonstration of hydraulic engineering which, when functioning at full capacity, will launch water into the air to a spectacular height of 147 metres. It is one of Canberras major attractions and impossible to miss, during its operating times, as it is located in the Central Basin of Lake Burley Griffin, directly facing the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point. The Captain Cook Memorial Jet pays tribute to the bicentenary of Captain Cooks discovery of the east coast of Australia and is part of the Captain James Cook Memorial which also includes the Captain Cook Memorial Globe displaying the routes of Captain Cooks three voyages of discovery.
