Hi, welcome to our blog where you can follow Zane (8), Maya (7), Cam (web designer, Dad and husband, in that order) and Kaz (me, wife, mother and apprentice everything else) on our travels as we discover, first hand, amazing destinations and inspiring locals in this country of ours.
At the beginning of 2010, when we decided to do this, we had come to a ‘fork in the road’ where it was a case of now or not for a very long time and then the decision became quite easy. Mind you, at that defining moment I had not realised the full extent of what we were about to embark on, with all of the forward thinking and planning involved, decisions to be made, what we need, what we want, what we can’t have, it is definitely not for the faint hearted. Just planning the trip alone is enough, let alone building a website (that just seems to get bigger every time we have a ‘great’ idea) at the same time. Lucky I have a clever and creative husband who has the website side of things all sorted.
We live in a small community on the Mid North Coast of NSW, stunningly picturesque as it is, we felt an overwhelming desire to take off and help put other towns like ours on globetrotters’ itineraries. Some of the most inspirational and stunning destinations in Australia are often not even known to travellers and they are simply bypassed for the more popular choice. Enter “Get About Australia” website, which we hope will inspire travellers young and old and every age in between to live life to the full and ‘get amongst it’ on whichever road you decide to travel and appreciate this amazing country of ours.
We are over halfway to our goal of departing in January 2011, the time is flying along with all of the planning in full swing, but then you know what they say about “best laid plans”! Can’t wait to experience the adventures and misadventures the smiles and the struggles and I will be typing it all out, right here.
Hope you enjoy the Wheatley’s escapades, the beautiful photography and benefit from the wealth of information we gather for you along the way.
Until next time, do as we are doing and live life!!!
