Jindabyne

Jindabyne - Snowy Mountains - New South Wales

Located 457 kilometres south-west of Sydney and 60 kilometres from Cooma. Jindabyne is a popular, cultural destination all year round, with the snowfields a 30 minute drive away.

The original town lies submerged under Lake Jindabyne, after the Snowy Mountains Authority relocated residents and a small number of homes to allow for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme.

Encircled by alpine trees, lake Jindabyne offers glimpses of the remains of the old town when levels are low.

Loads of visitors base themselves in Jindabyne in winter because of its proximity to the ski fields and also for the rest of the year as well, due to the many and varied activities on offer, choose from whitewater rafting, mountain biking, trout fishing and water sports on the lake.

Waste Point Lookout is a must for its sensational view over Lake Jindabyne.
