The Three Sisters Katoomba - NSW Landmarks

Landmark: The Three Sisters
Address: 23-31 Echo Point Road, Katoomba, 2780, NSW

This famous rock formation is unquestionably a magnificent natural asset of Echo Point. Located in Katoomba, the Blue Mountains, 110 kms west of Sydney. The sandstone of the three sisters have been eroded over time by wind and rain as are the cliffs surrounding the Jamison Valley. However, the Aboriginal Dream Time Stories of how they came to be, is nothing short of spellbinding.

The legend goes that three sisters, Meehni, Wimlah and Gunnedoo of the Katoomba Tribe, lived in the Jamison Valley. These beautiful sisters had fallen in love with three brothers from the opposing Nepean tribe and they were forbidden to marry. The three brothers captured the sisters and a major tribal battle followed. With the sisters lives in danger, one of their own tribal elders turned them to stone to protect them, with the intention of reversing the spell when the battle was over, only he himself was killed.

The sisters remain in their rock formation as he was the only one able to reverse the spell and now this incredible rock formation is a reminder of this battle.

View them when the sun goes down as they are lit up against the night sky.
