Daly Waters

Daly Waters - Barkly Region - Northern Territory

No trip into the outback is complete without a stopover at the Daly Waters Pub, it will prove to be an experience like no other and an unforgettable one at that. This quirky pub is famous for its bush hospitality and the writing is on the wall, literally. Flaunting visitors from all over the world who have made their mark in this watering hole. Foreign currency, hats, shirts and even underwear adorn every conceivable surface, it is impossible to read it all but an entertaining way to pass the time if you have it.

Daly Waters is 265 kilometres south of Katherine and is recognised as being Australia's first international airfield and was the focal point of the town from the 1930's to the late 1950's. Having started out as the destination for the mail run from Queensland to the Northern Territory it became the refuelling depot for QANTAS international flights heading through Darwin and on to Singapore.

The award winning Daly Waters Historic Pub is a must see and well worth veering off the main drag to experience a true outback pub with everything a traveller needs to break the trip up on this stretch of road. Accommodation consists of caravan park, backpackers, motel and cabins with a saltwater pool to cool off in and great pub meals with cold drinks and pets are welcome.
