Pine Creek

Pine Creek - Katherine Region - Northern Territory

Once one of the major centres of the Northern Territory's mining industry Pine Creek has a large history which tells of the states gold mining days. Situated 248 kilometres south of Darwin and a slight detour off the Stuart Highway, this historic town pays homage to the golden days of the old railway and telegraph line in the Railway Museum.

A peaceful, shady rest stop is provided for travellers to take a break and stretch weary muscles. This fascinating town is a lovely distraction from the road with shops, cafe, service station and supermarket. Pine Creek is the fourth largest town between Darwin and Alice Springs with a population of approximately 700 people. Time your arrival with one of the many celebrations held in town including the Goldrush Festival, the Northern Territory Gold Panning championships and Didgeridoo Jam, the Pine Creek Rodeo and Pine Creek Races.
