One of the most arid regions of the Australain continent, the 17,000 square-kilometre stretch of the Simpson Desert reaches south-east from Alice Springs and filters into South Australia and Queensland. Flourishing wildlife, rare pine trees, red rolling sand dunes, endless horizons and stunning wildflowers is distinctive in this desert environment. Listen to personal stories of desert life at the celebrated Titjikala Art Centre or maybe purchase some stunning local art.

Must do's include, a tour of the Santa Theresa/Ltyenye Apurte community for beautiful murals depicting biblical/Dreamtime stories, magnificent sunsets at Rainbow Valley, the markings of last century's explorers at Chambers Pillar and the sandstone gallery at Ewaninga Rock Carvings Conservation Reserve.

If you do decide to visit the Simpson Desert most of the attractions can only be accessed by four wheel drive due to the sandy terrain.
