Douglas Daly River Region

Take a scenic drive to the Douglas and Daly River Region located approximately halfway between Darwin and Katherine. The Daly River is one of the Top End's most well-liked waterways, for its large barramundi, where locals and visitors unite to participate in the two major annual fishing competitions - the 'Barra Classic' and the 'Barra Nationals'. Although it's not only popular for its barra, black bream can be caught all year round at Oolloo Crossing and barramundi in the early dry season. Spend the rest of your well earned break, swimming, camping and bushwalking.

The Douglas Daly Hotsprings is fabulous for swimming and birdwatching however swimming anywhere else in this area can be hazardous so visitors should always check crocodile warning signs as crocs do inhabit this area. Butterfly Gorge is another sensational destination with masses of butterflies to be found in all of the nooks and crannies of the rock face and a delightful swimming hole bordered by towering paperbark trees. Visit the Merrepen Arts Centre and watch the local artists at work producing authentic arts and crafts.
