Emerald

Emerald - Capricorn - Queensland

The lush 'Emerald Downs Hill' situated just north of town served as the inspiration for the naming of this modern country town. Gateway to the largest and one of the richest sapphire fields in the southern hemisphere, Emerald is also recognised as the hub for the Central Highlands. Emerald plays host to the world's biggest Van Gogh sunflower painting in Morton Park with this incredible structure reaching 25 metres in height.

The nearby Fairbairn Dam is proving to be a holiday destination in its own right boasting a range of accommodation options available including caravan, camping and cabins. Famous for its Red Claw Crayfish, fisherman can also enjoy the spoils of nature with the lake supplying an abundance of barramundi and other fish. Snap a photo of the ancient 250 million year old tree at the Emerald Town Hall and admire the intricate wrought iron design of the National Trust Listed Railway Station.
