Mount Morgan

Mount Morgan - Capricorn - Queensland

Visit a town cloaked in the rich history of gold mining days back in the nineteenth century, where visitors can experience, hands on opportunities of what life was like in the gold rush days of colonial Queensland. Mount Morgan is an easy 38 kilometre drive from Rockhampton and is situated on the banks of the Dee River.

The historical mining town of Mount Morgan was the Capricorn Region's major contributor of gold, silver and copper and ran until 1981. Prehistoric enthusiasts can take the rare opportunity of hunting for dinosaur footprints in the Mount Morgan clay caves where you can view some of the most celebrated Jurassic footprints in Australia. Visit the last of six swinging suspension bridges built in the 1890's, that enabled access from the town to the mine, downstream over the Dee River.
