For visitors wishing to escape the hustle and bustle and truly get in touch with Mother Nature, you need look no further than the lush mountains swathed in sub-tropical rainforest of Eungella National Park. Located an hour west of Mackay, Eungella takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning 'Land of the Clouds'.

With 22 kilometres of bushwalking trails including the Mackay Highlands Great Walk, suitable for all ages and fitness levels, with varying degrees of difficulty and presenting stunning views. Be on the lookout, as thousands of years of nurturing in this pristine environment have afforded the rainforest to allow a spectacular range of wildlife to thrive in a nature wonderland. With 225 bird species of which some include the Crimson Rosella, Regent Bower Birds, Wompoo Pigeon and one of five new birds discovered in Australia in the last 50 years - the Eungella Honeyeater.

Broken Rivers's platypus viewing deck is a great way to spot this incredible animal with the best times to view, being sunrise and sunset. Getting back to nature is well worth the reconnection with canoeing, cycling and four wheel driving to get you active and with accommodation ranging from motels, cabins, caravan sites, self contained accommodation and camping.
