Cardwell is located approximately one hours drive south of Mission Beach and enjoys its standing as the gateway to Hinchinbrook Island, the biggest island National Park in Australia. Cardwell enjoys a combination of distinct landscapes and happens to be the only town in the world where two world heritage listed areas meet. Beginning north of Townsville and ending south of Cooktown the wet tropics world heritage area covers an enormous expanse and the second is the Great Barrier Reef world heritage area.

Whatever the weather, whatever the tide, Cardwell is recognised as a first class fishing destination in north Queensland. Cardwell has 22 islands off the coast with 45 kilometres of sheltered waters in the Hinchinbrook channel, perfect for boating.
