Glasshouse Mountains

Glasshouse Mountains - Sunshine Coast - Queensland

The township of the Glass House Mountains is located about 20 minutes from Caboolture and 30 minutes from Caloundra in Queensland's Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The unusual English name given to this iconic Australian landmark was from Captain James Cook in 1770 when he sailed past and thought how they reminded him of the glass making furnaces in his home town of Yorkshire.

The Glass House Mountains are in fact the centre of 20 million year old volcanoes where the erosion of the sides have left behind these incredible volcanic peaks. The surrounding areas of the mountains provide many tropical fruits, vegetables, nuts and tobacco.

Visitors can stay in the township of the Glass House Mountains and should drop into the Visitor Information Centre in Settlers Rotary Park where they will take care of accommodation bookings and offer all the information necessary to enjoy your exploration of the breathtaking landscape.
