Proserpine

Proserpine - Whitsundays - Queensland

Slow the pace down a little in Proserpine, the administrative centre and the heart of The Whitsundays. Surrounded by sugar cane fields that saturate the air with the heady sweet scent of molasses during the harvesting season, from June to October, is always a staunch reminder of Proserpine's deep farming roots. Wander down Proserpine's main street where the memories of cattle grazing and sugar cane families of yesteryear are portrayed in the facades of buildings with the Eldorado theatre will take you back to the glory days.

A newly restoration of the main street will have you wandering the charming village atmosphere with its unique shops and and recently refurbished hotel. The Proserpine Historical Museum is a must and the Pioneer Park near the entrance to the town hosts the towns markets every fourth Sunday of the month.
