Nuriootpa

Nuriootpa - Barossa Valley - South Australia

Prolific vineyards represent the perfect setting for the town of Nuriootpa, the business centre of the Barossa and the ideal base to explore this magnificent wine region. Just an hours drive from Adelaide city, Autumn yields an impressive display upon the town as the main street, flanked in vines, bursts into a riot of colour but that's just part of the story. The town itself originated as a pub after William Coulthard saw the need for a pitstop for travellers, along what was once a trade route to the coppermines. The result was the spawning of a town with an applauded history of outstanding winemaking, of course, having become home to world class wines such as Penfolds and Elderton with the Wolf Blass Visitor Centre on the towns doorstep.

This is a town of celebration where the locals and visitors agree that their love for wine is rivalled only by their weakness for great food, fair enough. So join the festivities of the Barossa Vintage Festival on odd numbered years in April. Discover some sweet solitude and breathe in the crisp air whilst picnicking on wholesome local produce at Coulthard or Tolley Reserve. Even better than that, head to Maggie Beer's Farm Shop and select some gourmet goodies to take home.
