Coffin Bay

Coffin Bay - Eyre Peninsula - South Australia

If numbers are anything to go by in order to judge the popularity of a holiday destination, then there is no doubt Coffin Bay is a sought after pristine family holiday retreat as this tiny town's population more than quadruples in Summer. Situated 46 kilometres west of Port Lincoln this picturesque fishing village rests on the shores of arguably one of the most impressive estuaries in Australia. The bay provides ideal conditions for keen anglers, sailing, waterskiing and swimming in a setting that is impossible to take a bad picture.

Leave the craziness of city and suburban chaos far behind, find a beach chair with your name on it and savour the sweet solitude of a secluded beach. Coffin Bay has a prosperous oyster farming industry and was originally known as Oyster Town, no prizes for guessing why. Today this thriving industry employs approximately 100 people to harvest and sort these morsels that are touted as the best in Australia.
The restaurant in town is called The Oysterbeds Restaurant!

If the need arises to be slightly busy there is a bowling green, 9 hole golf course, yacht club, recreational fishing charters and catamaran adventures to keep you out of trouble. Roam by car or by foot through the multifaceted Coffin Bay National Park and uncover serene bays, waterways and craggy coastal landscapes. Camping is permitted in designated areas, a permit is necessary otherwise there are holiday units, hotel/motel, houses, cabins and caravan park.
