Streaky Bay

Streaky Bay - Eyre Peninsula - South Australia

Making your way into this scenic holiday resort you will be surrounded by golden wheat fields, idyllic coves and tranquil bays. The fishing port of Streaky Bay is situated 303 kilometres north-west of Port Lincoln and 727 kilometres from Adelaide where the streaky colour of the water, due to seaweed oils, prompted explorer Matthew Flinders to name the town after this particular characteristic. This very pretty, quaint town exudes an ambience that will not be lost on travellers who feel an overwhelming desire to get out the picnic rug and relax on the lush green grass overlooking the picturesque bay.

Streaky Bay boasts a celebrated maritime culture with the chief industry being fishing and aquaculture featuring precious hauls of southern rock lobster, abalone, King George whiting and shark. There is a vast array of other plentiful seafood swimming around in the Streaky Bay waters and the development of oyster farms is on the rise.

Take advantage of the accommodation options to stop and unwind, choose from holiday flats, hotel/motel, B & B and caravan park. Take in the view and some great seafood at Mocean Cafe and check out the National Trust Museum complete with a restored pioneer cottage, old school and doctors surgery. Get down to the town oval and join the sports club for a roll up on the bowls green or a round of golf.
