Whyalla is the third most populated city in South Australia and is the gateway to the Eyre Peninsula. Flaunting the best of both worlds where the outback and the sea unite confirming Whyalla as the ideal destination to base yourself for a multitude of holiday encounters and is located 395 kilometres from Adelaide city. Divers and snorkelers flock to the coast for a spectacular display from May to August as a phenomenal amount of cuttlefish spawn to the north of town, known as the Giant Australian Cuttlefish season. Investigate the mining town of Iron Knob and its museum or take part in a mine lookout tour.

The city of Whyalla itself is building momentum as an anglers delight where over 750 keen fishermen battle it out in the annual snapper fishing competition over the Easter long weekend. Visit the towns main attraction at the Whyalla Maritime Museum, the HMAS Whyalla, at 650 tonnes it is the biggest permanently land-locked ship in Australia. Mount Laura Homestead is a National Trust Museum and well worth a look along with Tanderra Craft Village and the Ada Ryan Gardens.

Relax on the foreshore, a fantastic spot to rest under shady trees and watch the boats bobbing in the marina. The contemporary city of Whyalla has loads to offer visitors that stay for a weekend or a while.
