Willunga

Willunga - Fleurieu Peninsula - South Australia

Port Willunga spent its early days as a grain port and now enjoys the booty of local almonds to which it pays tribute every July with the Almond Blossom Festival. Located 47 kilometres from Adelaide on the seaside playground of the southern reaches of the Fleurieu Peninsula visitors converge on this this pristine area surrounded by thriving farmland and bountiful olive groves. Sheltered sandy beaches provide relaxing swimming for the whole family while on the other hand the coastline is infamous for savage storms that have been known to tear along the coast in this area. The remnants of the Star of Greece remain off the coast nearby as a timely reminder of the ravages of mother nature.

Take the self guided Historical Walk around Willunga featuring colonial architecture including the Anglican Church and for local arts and crafts choose one or got to both the Willunga Farmers Market and the Willunga Quarry Market. Take a guided tour with 'Willunga Walks and Talks' and check out the local history at the National Trust Willunga Courthouse Museum which houses an original 1855 courtroom.
