Kingston Limestone Coast South Australia

Kingston - Limestone Coast - South Australia

The seaside town of Kingston is nestled on the shores of Lacapede Bay at the south-eastern end of Encounter Bay and the Coorong, 297 kilometres south-east of Adelaide. Known as the 'Gateway to the South East', Kingston is also famous for its lobsters, featuring a 17 metre high, 15 metre long Lobster named 'Larry' crouching out the front of the Visitor Information Centre. Inevitably fisherman can enjoy the many opportunities to cast a line in and the safety of sandy coastline along Lacapede Bay invites one and all to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine.

There are still a number of historic buildings in town and tours are operated for folks interested in a bit of history at the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse now situated on the Kingston Foreshore. Kingston is home to an Analematic Sundial, one of only eight in the world and the second in Australia. Birdwatchers are in for a treat with prolific birdlife inhabiting the area due to the shallow lakes and lagoons creating a haven for these beautiful creatures.

Nearby, a number of wineries are beginning to pop up south of Kingston so visitors enthusiastic to sample the delights of the area will be welcomed in this new and exciting wine region with a collection of cellar doors.
