Mount Gambier

Mount Gambier - Limestone Coast - South Australia

Mount Gambier lies on an extinct volcano, 450 kilometres south of Adelaide and 17 kilometres from the South Australian border where the area features a mesh of volcanic craters. The town itself was built on the escarpment of the volcano and was originally known as Gambier Town. The three largest craters have been filled with water, called Blue Lake, this incredible sight is best viewed in November when the water transforms into an impressive shade of turquoise blue and is a favourite attraction amongst locals and visitors to the area. Mount Gambier is home to the largest softwood pine plantation in the Commonwealth and enjoys the products of surrounding farming, viticulture and dairy countryside.
