Renmark

Renmark - The Murray - South Australia

Cast a carefully appraising eye over the crisp sparkle of the Murray River and absorb the romantic paddle steamer days of yesteryear. Renmark invites visitors to marvel at the lush lands surrounding the town as it thrives with vineyards and orchards as a consequence of the first irrigation scheme to succeed in Australia back in 1887, thanks to the Canadian born Chaffey brothers. Meet up with a leisurely boat tour of the backwaters of the Murray or hire a canoe or kayak and embark on your own adventure.

The Chaffey brothers original home, Olivewood, is a National Trust Historic Building and Museum which allows visitors to learn about the history of this Riverland town. For those interested in a little bit more history, meander along the Renmark riverfront to the nearby town of Paringa if you like, or a shorter and an easy 5 kilometre walk gives visitors some historical information about Renmark and the Murray.

Visit Ruston's Rose Garden where roses burst with colour from July to September, in the main street where the town enjoys its perfect climate for these beautiful blooms. Accommodation is plentiful and for something a little different there are an array of houseboats available for hire.
