Triabunna

Triabunna - East Coast - Tasmania

Triabunna is a delightful port town on the east coast of Tasmania, just 88 kilometres north-east of Hobart, where its population of 700 swells significantly during the holiday season. This major civic centre enjoys a brilliant blend of rolling hills and idyllic beaches with the scallop and abalone trade front and centre of the towns main source of industry. Triabunna was originally established as a whaling station with a military presence which serviced nearby Maria Island's penal colony. Today visitors can jump aboard the daily ferry and be transported back in time by viewing the colonial past represented in timeless buildings including the Spring Bay Hotel and the St Mary's Anglican Church. The island also displays amazing fossil deposits of the Painted Cliffs, rare and beautiful wildlife, cycling and bushwalking.

In town, the shops and galleries ensure a relaxing morning stroll of discovery with Girraween Gardens and Tearooms offering time out amongst the blooms. Remember those who lost their lives at sea at the Tasmanian Seafarer's Memorial, visit the woodchip mill at Point Home and sample the fruits of the locals labour at coastal vineyards. Fishing enthusiasts might want to try their luck in the protected waters of Prosser Bay or sailors have the opportunity to bob over coral reefs and kelp forests. Whether you step out to take the relaxing Pelican Walk, near the marina, or head south-west to Orford for the Wielangta Forest and Old Convict Road walk you will be taking home some postcard memories of Triabunna.
