Whitemark

Whitemark - East Coast - Tasmania

The business centre for Flinders Island is the town of Whitemark, located on the west coast with views over Parrys Bay. Brush up on the island's intriguing history and visit the Furneaux Museum which houses artefacts and displays from its whaling and sealing days. Use the knowledge of locals to your advantage and embark on a game fishing charter or strike it lucky fossicking for Killiecrankie 'diamonds'. For visitors with a fever of enthusiasm for action, Mount Killiecrankie provides challenges with rugged granite cliff faces for climbing or meander the Strzelecki Peaks Track to reward yourself with views from the island's highest point in Strzelecki National Park.

If you thought Mainland Tassie was relaxing but you want to kick things back a notch or two, splendid isolation doesn't get much better than Flinders Island. At just 64 kilometres long and 29 kilometres wide it is the largest of the 52 islands that make up the Furneaux Group, which were once joined, linking the gap between Tasmania and Australia's mainland. Since then, Flinders Island has retained its untouched environment with only 900 residents that inhabit this island paradise, your chance of running into other fabulous creatures, that share residency here, is more likely.

Go diving or simply roam aimlessly along stretches of white sand, it's your holiday!
