Burnie

Burnie - North West Coast - Tasmania

Burnie is Tasmania's fourth largest city adorned with enchanting heritage buildings transporting visitors back in time. This vibrant waterfront town overlooking Emu Bay on the north-west coast of Tasmania is located 49 kilometres west of Devonport and is home to the country's biggest eucalyptus tree farm. Burnie's most time honoured building, Burnie Inn, can be found within the grounds of Burnie Park where it has been lovingly restored into a teahouse. Strolling along shaded walkways watching ducks, peacocks, swans, wallabies and emus will be the perfect antidote to unwind from the stresses of daily life.

Find out all about the city's history at the Pioneer Village Museum and something for the crafty visitors to enjoy is a tour of Creative Paper with demonstrations and activities involving recycled paper. If it's samples you prefer then head to The Cheese Tasting Centre for specialty produce and kick things up a notch or two with a sample of single malt whiskey at the Hellyers Road Distillery. Get involved in the Burnie Shines community festival, a celebration held for the entire month of October and while you're there participate in the Burnie Ten, a road race for all fitness capacities.
