Devonport

Devonport - North West Coast - Tasmania

The seaport city of Devonport is best known as the home port of the Spirit of Tasmania I and II ferries and is Tasmania's third largest city. Blessed with stunning coastline and parklands on the banks of the Mersey River,98 kilometres west of Launceston, Devonport enjoys views of the striking headland of Mersey Bluff bordering the city. The Maritime Museum houses the city's celebrated seafaring culture with these car and passenger ferries a prominent feature of Devonport.

Devonport produces more than 40 per cent of Tassie's vegetable crops and is a fantastic spot for taking advantage of the city's close proximity to Mersey River with rowing and sailing. Discover all there is to know about Indigenous history and nearby rock carvings from the Tiagarra Aboriginal Centre and visit the National trust residence of Home Hill once occupied by Joseph Lyons, the only Tasmanian to have been an Australian Prime Minister.

The list of enriching activities in and around Devonport is long but here are just a few to keep you entertained, engaged or whatever it is you are seeking on your holiday. Simon Martin Whips and Leathercraft, Pandemonium Discovery and Adventure Centre, Devonport Regional Gallery, Australian Weaving Mills Factory Outlet, Devonport Lighthouse, historic locomotives at the Don River Railway and much more.
