Clunes

Clunes - Macedon Ranges - Victoria

The town of Clunes is located north of Ballarat and considered to be one of Victoria's most unspoiled gold rush sites. The towns streets feature significant historic buildings throughout and it was here in Clunes where the first gold strike in Victoria took place back on the 7th July 1851. Famous also for having been the location for the Ned Kelly film starring Heath Ledger. A relaxing day out taking in the Clunes Museum, the Bottle Museum and a picnic at Queens Park set on the banks of Creswick Creek will have travellers unwinding in no time.

Cruise approximately 3 kilometres south along the road to Ballarat to view the extinct volcanoes that surround the town of Clunes or heading west enjoy the spectacular views from the peak at Mount Beckworth Scenic reserve. Nearby, the town of Talbot is a delightful pitstop where travellers can take in the historic buildings, Arts and Historical Museum and the farmers market held on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
