Hopetoun The Murray Victoria

Hopetoun - The Murray - Victoria

The small Mallee town of Hopetoun is the gateway to the Mallee Parks, making it a great place to base yourself and explore these fantastic parks. Wyperfield, Hattah-Kulkyne and Murray Sunset National Parks all have a unique experience to offer visitors to this region. The vibrant community of Hopetoun is primarily supported by agriculture and business including approximately 200 farmers producing crops like wheat, barley, oats, canola, lentils, peas, chickpeas and lupins.

Hopetoun is located south-east of Wyperfield National Park and was named after Victorian Governor and Australia's first Governor-General, the Earl of Hopetoun. The Earls good friend Edward Lascelles had the foresight to recognise the agricultural and economic opportunities in store for the Mallee country. After convincing the State Government that this land had a future, he became known as the Mallee King and his name has become treasured in Mallee history.

Visit Hopetoun House, the residence of Lascelles, around which the town grew. A fantastic mesh of lake beds are the main feature of Wyperfield National Park connected by Outlet Creek. Visitors are able to camp at Wonga Campground and Casuarina Campground after taking in the stunning flora and fauna inhabiting the park.
