Dongara

Dongara - Coral Coast - Western Australia

The twin towns of Dongara and Port Denison are situated 349 kilometres north of Perth with a population of 3,700. The gently winding Irwin River weaves its way between the twin towns giving the atmosphere a peaceful backdrop. Dongara's main street, Moreton Terrace, is the ideal relaxing stopover with majestic Moreton Bay fig trees lining the street since 1906. Take a lazy stroll along the lush foreshore watching the activity of the rock lobster fishing fleet in Port Denison or take a shot at it yourself with a spot of fishing off one of the marina's three jetties.

Take in the panoramic views of the ocean at Fisherman's Lookout with an obelisk in commemoration of sailors lost at sea, conquer sand dunes on the 4wd tracks of South Beach or stroll along the white sands. Experience one of only two drive-ins left in Western Australia, showing up to date movies every second Saturday night or meet the fabulous wildlife that inhabit the region on one of the many exhilarating walks and come face to face with rabbits and chickens at a local animal farm.

Step back in time with a heritage walk through the streets admiring Dongara's historical buildings and join in the excitement on the first Saturday of every month at the lively street markets in Dongara Town Park.
