Horizontal Falls Derby - WA Landmarks

Landmark: Horizontal Falls
Address: Kimbolton, Talbot Bay, 6728, WA

A spectacular experience of a lifetime is guaranteed at one the most awe inspiring attractions in the Kimberley region, the Horizontal Waterfalls. These amazing tidal waterfalls can be found deep within Talbot Bay in the Buccaneer Archipelago where vigorous tidal movements generate the impressive waterfall effect. This unique phenomena was reported by David Attenborough as "one of the greatest natural wonders of the world". This outstanding natural feature will see to it that you never forget your Kimberley encounter.

There are two coastal gorges, which form part of the McLarty Ranges, where massive tides build up against one side of the narrow cliff opening faster than it can freely flow through them causing some four metre high waterfalls between the bays. With a ten metre variant occurring over six and a half hours from low to high tide this is all repeated again on the turning of the tide. The two ridges run parallel, 300 metres apart with the first gap approximately 20 metres wide and the second, most mind blowing, gap is about 10 metres wide.

To view this sensational event you must board a designated vessel where you will receive wonderful commentary, courtesy of experienced tour operators or take to the skies on an unforgettable scenic flight over the visually magnificent Buccaneer Archipelago.
